Accreditation is offered through the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB) to members of participating organizations, including FPRA. Though five years of public relations practice was previously required, ALL members are eligible regardless of years of experience. However, the objective, multiple-choice, computer exam does test a variety of knowledge, skills and abilities, so members interested in seeking accreditation need to be prepared in a variety of skill areas.

For more information on Accreditation and Certification, as well as any available chapter or State Association rebates, please contact your local Accreditation and Certification Chair or Ryan Gerds, APR, CPRC, VP Accreditation/Certification at rgerds@rtix.com.

Peek Inside…Gainesville May Luncheon

Devon Chestnut, APR, FPRA Gainesville Chapter President

For the Gainesville Chapter, the month of May was about partnerships and multicultural marketing and the May luncheon was a joint effort between the Chapter and the local AdFed group. Our fascinating guest speaker, George Zwierko, joined us from Tampa to discuss cultural marketing and to explore how the lines between communication and anthropology are beginning to blur. He touched on the importance of creating a sense of inclusivity when creating an event – even if it is targeted towards a specific culture. You can target the culture but it is important to make it appealing to all cultures. This can be accomplished by creating a marketing strategy relevant across the board. It’s also beneficial to address consumer behavior; culture code influences decisions and brand preference. We had a great turnout of approximately 50 people who attended this interesting and informative luncheon.

C’mon, Get Happy! PR is Driving the Bus!

Not true at your place? Then join the Gainesville chapter on May 6 at the FPRA Gainesville Professional Development Seminar to discover new ways to use communication strategies to drive your organization’s goals.

With so many new forms of communication rolling down the highway, sometimes we don’t know which bus route will help us reach our target audiences. You may even feel like you’re missing the bus altogether in this rapid transit world of communications. If you are unsure which forms of new and traditional communication work best for which audiences, we’re here to help. Don’t just ride—learn to drive the communications bus for your organization!

Click here to watch a short video produced by your PDS committee, about why you should “get on the bus” for PDS!

Who’s on board?

  • Ken DeGilio, entertainment business course director at Full Sail University
  • Kathy Barbour, communications manager at Mayo Clinic
  • Carmine Grastataro, president of RKS Research
  • Edmund Kellerman, senior lecturer at the Dial Center for Written and Oral Communication, University of Florida
  • Diana Nagy, senior lecturer at the Dial Center for Written and Oral Communication, University of Florida

And here’s one more reason to attend the seminar: The Universal Orlando Resort has provided two 2-day, 2-park tickets so you can experience firsthand how Universal targets its audiences! With these tickets you can spend two days visiting Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure, featuring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! How can these tickets be yours? Join us on May 6! At the end of the seminar, we’ll hold a drawing for the tickets. You could be the lucky winner!

The Professional Development Seminar is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., May 6 at UF’s Emerson Alumni Hall, 1938 W University Avenue, Gainesville. The cost is just $65 for FPRA and UFCN members and $85 for non-members. After April 22, the cost is $85. Students receive admission for $35. Email Dan Jesse for more information.

Register here! (you will be taken to a Wufoo sign up form)

After registering at Wufoo, please visit http://fpragainesville.com/chapter-events to find PayPal links to prepay for the seminar. Check or cash will also be accepted at the door on the morning of May 6.
