After a jam-packed morning and afternoon of break-out sessions, FPRA will present the second general session on Monday. This session features Ann Searight Christiano, Frank and Betsy Karel Endowed Chair in Public Interest Communications and professor at the University of Florida’s Department of Public Relations. Christiano will be talking about “Accelerant on the Flame of an Idea: Using Strategic Communications to Drive Social Change.”

Christiano will introduce attendees to the growing discipline of public interest communications and the importance of strategic communications in helping good ideas spread. She’ll focus on the unique value communications brings to advancing social causes and goals that transcend the interest of any single individual.

Ann Searight Christiano is the Frank Karel Chair in Public Interest Communications in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida. She curates frank, an annual gathering of people who use strategic communications to drive change, and is building a curriculum in the discipline at UF. Christiano came to UF from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where she developed strategies to support the foundation’s investment in reducing violence, promoting play and improving long term care.
