FPRA 2009 Annual Conference: Golden Image Awards Tutorial

Golden Image Awards

Tonight, FPRA will hold its 52nd Annual Golden Image Awards Gala. The Golden Image Awards competition is one of the highlights of FPRA’s annual conference. For those unfamiliar with the awards competition, here is a short tutorial:

The Florida Public Relations Association conducts the Golden Image Awards competition annually to recognize outstanding public relations programs in Florida and encourage and promote the development of public relations professionalism in our state.

Winners demonstrate the very best examples of innovation, planning and design. The awards competition includes four divisions:

  • Division A: Public Relations Programs
  • Division B: Printed Tools of Public Relations
  • Division C: Audio/Visual Tools of Public Relations
  • Division D: Student Projects in Public Relations

To qualify for judging, an entry must incorporate sound public relations research and planning. Entries also must meet the highest standard of production, execution and evaluation of results and budget. The Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America in Atlanta judged this year’s entries.

There are three levels of awards given:

  • The top award in each category is the Golden Image Award. This award may be presented to the top-scoring entry in each category if the entry meets predetermined criteria of excellence set by the judges.
  • An Award of Distinction is presented to all entries that meet the standard of excellence set by the judges.
  • And because of the importance of the “bottom line,” a special Judges Award may be given to any outstanding entry that achieves maximum public relations results with a minimum budget.

After judging the entries in each Division category, the Golden Image Award winners are compared and a Grand Golden Image Award is presented to the best Golden Image Award winning entry in Divisions B and C.

The best entry in Division A: Public Relations Programs is presented the Dick Pope All Florida Golden Image Award, Florida’s top public relations award.
